HAPPY 92nd birthday to Tun Datuk Seri Utama Haji Arshad Ayub, the recipient of BrandLaureate Brand ICON Leadership Most Eminent Award 2013.
Arshad was featured in the New Straits Times on November 15, 2020, in an article entitled “The Impossible is Possible.”
Coming from humble beginnings as a rubber tapper’s son, Arshad overcame his limitations to obtain formal education at Serdang, Aberystwyth (UK), and Lausanne (Switzerland). He then spent much of his life helping disadvantaged kids.
As one of the greatest innovators and educational administrators in the country, Arshad was the first Director of Institut Teknologi MARA (now UiTM). He led it with courage and vision for one decade from 1965 to 1975.
In 1965, Arshad was appointed the pioneering Director of Maktab MARA (later Institut Teknologi MARA) which is the countryโs largest institution of higher learning today.
At ITM, Arshad believes that everyone can be educated as there are many late bloomers who are largely ignored by the education system.
Indeed, Arshad’s life is an inspiration to all Malaysians and a testament that with discipline and determination, education is a ladder for upward mobility.
