We, at The BrandLaureate are saddened by the passing of Tun S. Samy Vellu, former president of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) and one of the longest-serving ministers in Malaysia. Our deepest condolences to Tun S. Samy Velluโs family, may you find strength and comfort in the days to come.
Tun S. #SamyVellu contested for the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat in 1974 for the first time and held the position as MP up until 2008. He also took on the role as Works Minister from 1983 to 1989 and then from 1995 to 2008 before finally retiring from the political scene in 2020. With a slew of experience under his belt, Tun S. Samy Vellu is best known as a political firebrand, incorporating emphatic and dynamic leadership styles to propel his party to the forefront while gaining his membersโ trust.
Aside from the political scene, Tun S. Samy Vellu was also very charismatic and affable, known as a man with a good sense of humour yet not shying away from standing up for what he believed in. It was these characteristics of his that made him stand out from the rest, appealing to many and rising above as more than a political leader but a legendary icon.
Tun S. Samy Vellu is a role model to many and his contributions to the community and nation will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace.
