THE BrandLaureate expresses our deepest condolences on the death of Tao Porchon-Lynch, an American yoga master who passed away peacefully at age 101 on February 21, 2020.

Porchon-Lynch, of French and Indian descent, won The BrandLaureate International Brand Personality Award in March 2017. She also held the Guinness World Record for the oldest competitive ballroom dancer and competed in America’s Got Talent in 2015.

News of her death inspired tributes from many of her followers on her Facebook page. One of them reads: “With great sorrow and heavy hearts, we are writing to let you know that our beloved Tao passed away this morning, peacefully and without pain.”

Born on August 13, 1918, in Puducherry, India, Porchon-Lynch began practicing yoga at the age of eight and studied under the masters including Sri Aurobindo, B.K.S. Iyengar, K. Pattabhi Jois, Swami Prabhavananda, and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Her life included a stint in Hollywood in the movie โ€œThe Strange Doorโ€, marching with Mohandas K. Gandhi for social justice, committed to wildlife conservation and authored the book, โ€œDancing Light: The Spiritual Side of Being Through the Eyes of a Modern Yoga Master.โ€
