With deep sadness, we, at The BrandLaureate, bid farewell to Former Inspector-General of Police YABhg Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar, a recipient of The BrandLaureate Legendary Brand ICON Leadership Award 2013 and a stalwart figure whose dedication to duty and service left an indelible mark on our nation.

Tun Mohammed Hanif’s illustrious career in law enforcement began as the Chief of Police in Melaka in 1970, followed by his tenure as the Selangor police chief in 1971. His resilience and competence led to him ascending to the position of Deputy Inspector-General of Police in 1973, before eventually being appointed as Malaysia’s fourth Inspector-General of Police in 1974, at the age of 35.

He held this prestigious position for two decades until his retirement in 1994, making him not only the youngest, but also the longest-serving IGP in Malaysia’s history.

His astute leadership and daring spirit earned him the respect and admiration of many. Beyond his tenure, Tun Mohammed Hanif continued to serve with distinction, notably as a member of the Royal Commission to Enhance the Operation and Management of the Police from 2004 to 2005, and as the patron of the Yayasan Pengaman Malaysia.

As we honour Tun Mohammed Hanif’s memory, let us remember his profound contributions to the security and well-being of our nation. May his soul rest in peace.
