As the founder and executive chairman of Westports Holdings Berhad, Datuk Gnanalingam has left a profound impact on the transportation and logistics industry. His visionary stewardship and unwavering commitment transformed Westports and Port Klang into Malaysia’s preeminent gateway and thriving transhipment hub in Southeast Asia.
Datuk Gnanalingam’s remarkable journey began with British American Tobacco and culminated in his iconic leadership role at Westports. His immense contributions earned him a well-deserved place on Forbes’ billionaires list and numerous esteemed accolades, including the title of “Transport Man of the Year” by the Ministry of Transport. As an alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Business School and the Royal Military College, Datuk Gnanalingam’s thirst for knowledge and continuous learning was also evident throughout his illustrious career.
His influence extends beyond Westports, as he actively participated in governmental and industry bodies, serving on the National PEMUDAH committee, and as a valued member of the National Export Council.
Today, we remember Datuk Gnanalingam as not only a remarkable businessman but also a compassionate individual whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who have the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in peace.
