Congratulations to National Paralympic gold medallist Abdul Latif Romly for being conferred the Panglima Mahkota Wilayah (PMW) award recently, which carries the title Datuk.
Romly received the Datukship title from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah at Istana Negara in conjunction with the Federal Territories Day on Feb 1.
His success in defending the gold medal in the long jump (T20) event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in August 2021 led to the highest recognition.
Just 24-years-old, the Perlis-born athlete was also the recipient of The BrandLaureate Sports Icon – World of Sports Brand Icon Leadership Award. He won the award in the category of Malaysian Paralympic Athlete in Long Jump, on December 15, 2021 at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
Romly has proven his sporting ambition to become an Olympic gold medallist by creating records and proving that disabilities are no hurdle to success.
In 2015, he set a record-breaking 7.43 meter leap to defend his gold medal at Para Asean Games in Singapore.
In 2016, he was chosen as the Malaysian flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Rio Summer Paralympics Games, and he broke his own world record three times at the same event.
In the same year, he also earned Malaysia’s third gold medal at the Paralympic Games and was named the 2016 Sportsman of the Year at the Malaysian Sports Awards, where he was the first Para athlete to receive the award.
Congratulations Abdul Latif Romly on your exemplary success and sportsmanship.
