The BrandLaureate expresses our deepest condolences to the family of Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, the former Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN), who passed away early this morning. He was 82.
Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, was the recipient of The BrandLaureate “Sports Branding Man of the Year” BRAND ICON LEADERSHIP AWARDS 2012, when he was Chairman of Permodalan Nasional Berhad. His passing is a great loss to the nation.
Born on September 16, 1938 in Tapah; Ahmad Sarji served as the Chief Secretary to the Government from 1990 to 1996 during the administration of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. He was also the chairman of the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) in 1992, and was re-appointed in 2019.
Ahmad Sarji’s youngest son, Ariff Tuah thanked all parties who conveyed their condolences to the family including leaders of the country, amidst the Covid-19 situation.
He said his father was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for 21 days, at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HCTM) Cheras, due to breathing difficulties, before passing away.
He died at a hospital at 1.40am and was laid to rest at the Raudhatul Sakinah Bukit Kiara 2 Muslim Cemetery at noon today.
