STANDING IN THE EYES OF THE WORLD
On July 4, 2020, Wah Idris came into the limelight when his composition ‘Standing in the Eyes of the World’ was given a makeover in conjunction with US Independence Day.
In the four-minute video clip, Malaysian artists and US cultural envoys came together to perform a special rendition of ‘Standing in the Eyes of the World’ originally sung by Malaysia’s rock queen Ella.
The US-Malaysia cultural diplomacy collaboration featured musicians such as Zee Avi, Ella, former Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, guitar whiz Tony Memmel, jazz vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli, a capella group ReVoiced, and all-female country group Farewell Angelina, a percussionist from the US Air Force’s Band of the Pacific, and flutist Muhardiman Ismail (or Mohar) who played the Malaysian flute in the video.
Ella was also a proud recipient of The BrandLaureate Awards in 2018 when she was awarded The Grand Master Brand Icon Leadership Award together with two other veteran artistes Datuk Ramli Sarip and Anuar Zain, who jointly received The Brand Icon Awards.
